PURTREX/HYTREX Models offer real depth-cartridge filtering:
Many cartridges are portrayed as effective depth filters. However, in order to provide good depth filtering the cartridge must be capable of retaining contaminants through the entire cross section of the filter. To accomplish this, the density of the filter must increase progressively from the outer to the inner surface. This "graduated density" allows the larger particles to remain trapped close to the outer surface, while the smaller ones can penetrate the inner area and then remain locked at the centre of the filter. Otherwise, the filter would work only as a surface filter; the differential pressure would rapidly increase, immediately occluding the surface area and drastically reducing both the ability to retain dirt and the duration of the filter.
What PURTREX/HYTREX is:
Osmonics manufactures Purtrex/Hytrex cartridges by means of a continuous polypropylene extrusion process. The polypropylene fiber with a controlled diameter is extruded and simultaneously wound on a steel support; while still hot it thermally welds onto itself in various points, creating a porous matrix. Upon reaching the desired size, the cartridge is extracted from the support.
The process is automated and by controlling certain parameters, such as the size of the fiber, temperature and the winding mode, it is possible to obtain extremely consistent results , without any external intervention and without the addition of lubricants, antistatic agents or other additives.
What PURTREX/HYTREX is not:
- It is not a cartridge with mechanically-wound wire placed around a central support with the addition of lubricants and antistatic agents.
- It is not a set of small fibres cut and bound together with chemical binders.
- It is not a cartridge with layers of non-woven microfibre.
The cartridges produced with this technology work mainly as surface filters and release various substances, such as binders and lubricants, together with the filtered liquid.
RO.SAVE is contructed with the revolutionary Z.PLEX technology:
GE recently patented Z.PLEX technology, the result of years of research on the construction of filter cartridges. Z.PLEX technology was developed to produce a filter media with a higher degree of empty space compared to traditional cartridges made in heat-welded polypropylene fiber. This result was achieved thanks to two fundamental tools:
- the use of smaller fibres;
- a three-dimensional matrix (transverse fibres intersect those deposited in a concentric manner), which maintains structural integrity thus increasing filtering capacity.
A 100% increase in filtering capacity
A 100% increase in the duration of the cartridge
A 50% decrease in pressure drops
The density of the fibers increases towards the inner part so as to obtain differentiated porosity and further increase the efficiency of the cartridge (the larger particles are blocked in the external layers, while the smaller ones remain in the internal layers).
Furthermore, the outer surface of the cartridge is thermally treated to ensure a clean appearance and at the same time the inner surface is stiffened to confer structural resistance even without a separate core.
Within the framework of the family of products built with Z.PLEX technology, the RO.SAVE line is specifically dedicated to pre-filtration in membrane-separation systems (reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration). RO.SAVE guarantees optimum protection of the membranes and at the same time a long life; this is a particularly important aspect in reverse-osmosis systems that often operate with limited surveillance and where manual intervention for the replacement of cartridges is thus a critical aspect of management.
All RO.SAVE cartridges are manufactured in pure polypropylene and certified for use on foodstuffs according to the NSF 42 standard.
